Always Look Twice by Elizabeth Goddard

Elizabeth Goddard is a champion in the suspense genre. Her newest release is Always Look Twice, the second book in her "Uncommon Justice" series and I loved it from beginning to end.

The story takes place in the wilderness of Wyoming, near Jackson Hole. The characters drew me into their story from page one and held me engaged until the very end.

The female lead is Harper Reynolds, a crime scene photographer who has left her job, to get away from all the atrocities she has witnessed. Unfortunately, while photographing a grizzly bear near the Grayback River she not only witnesses a murder but captures it on film. As she flees away from what she has seen, she falls and loses her camera. Without her camera she cannot produce the pictures of the murder and when the sheriff's department searches the area the body can't be found.

The male lead is a former Green Beret, Heath McKade who is now a reserve deputy and a childhood friend to Harper. As the story unfolds the sheriff has Heath act as a protector to Harper which proves challenging.

Ms. Goddard has created a fast-paced, suspenseful story that will grab the reader from the beginning and send them on a roller coaster ride until the very end.

I would highly recommend Always Look Twice to anyone who loves a good clean suspenseful novel.

I would like to thank the author and Revell for my copy of Always Look Twice. I received my copy for free with no expectation for a positive or negative review. The opinions are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission's 16 CFR. Part 255.

When God Says Wait A Devotional Thought Journal by Elizabeth Laing Thompson

If you love devotionals and journals you will definitely love "When God Says Wait" as it is the best of both worlds. The book comes with a pretty pink attached bookmark and each devotional is made up of two pages, the left side is a Bible verse and journal space while the right side is the devotional and more journal space.

I found each devotional thought-provoking and there was plenty of room to journal. While the pages are not numbered, the ribbon marker is a nice addition to help you keep your place.

One devotion that caught my attention had the verses Isaiah 63:8-9 and the devotion reminded me about what I have told many people in the past...that we have a hole in our heart that only God can fill. Here is the devotion:

"People can never occupy the God-shaped space in our hearts, no matter how thoughtful or devoted or almost-perfect they are. When we try to get people (even siblings or parents or best friends for life or even the love of our life) to become our everything, they will always fall short. We will still be left lonely. Why? Because only God is meant to be our everything."
"How do you feel when you seek from people the things that can only come from God? How can you more readily rely on God to be your everything"

I would highly recommend this devotional/journal to anyone, male or female, young or old.

On a 5 Star Scale - 5 Stars!!!!!

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Barbour Publishing and was under no obligation to post a review.

Fatal Strike by DiAnn Mills

My Thoughts:

I absolutely loved DiAnn Mills newest book, Fatal Strike. This is a book in which both the heroine and hero have fears that they need to overcome or their fears will definitely do them in.

The story is about two snipers, FBI Agents Leah Riesel and Jon Colbert. They are brought together in a situation that needed a sniper's intervention. As soon as they are done on this job they are given another job to do together and all I can say is once you open up the pages of this book, you will be swept away on a journey that will leave you breathless. I can usually figure who did what but in this book I was shocked when all was revealed at the end.

Ms. Mills has a masterful talent of creating extremely believable characters that are perfectly flawed but by the end of the book, they learn to deal with their issues and can start moving forward. It was no different in Fatal Strike. Leah has a fear that she literally finds herself coming face to face with and Jon experiences a situation that he will also have to make a decision that will help him combat his fear. I found myself thinking about one of my fears and how I might be able to overcome it.

I can honestly say this is one of Ms. Mills best books yet. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a good clean suspense novel. You won't be disappointed.

On a 5-Star Scale - 5 HUGE Stars!!!!!

Their best lead is an eyewitness who identifies a young man dumping the third body on a church doorstep. As Leah and Jon check connections among the victims and dig deeper into motives, they discover appearances may be deceiving. Someone is desperate to keep their secrets hidden, and Leah and Jon must face their greatest fears in order to stop the next fatal strike.

The Words Between Us by Erin Bartels

My Thoughts:

When I had a chance to select The Words Between Us by Erin Bartels I decided I would give it a chance. I had never heard of this author and while her writing is very well done, I was quite disappointed in a couple of things. First, some of the situations made me uncomfortable, such as early on in the heroine's past some of the high school football players made comments about one of the players getting it on with the heroine. Unfortunately, he didn't come to her rescue and she had a name assigned to her that I felt revolted by. This was very early in the book and unfortunately, it tainted my view of the balance of the book. Second, since this is a book from Revell, I wanted a strong Christian theme throughout the book, but that didn't happen.

Now, as I mentioned previously, I really enjoyed Ms. Bartels gift of words and story, even though I am not a big fan of first-person storylines. If there was more of a Christian theme and if the non-pleasant situations were removed I would probably love the book.

While I might not suggest this book to my Christian friends and followers, it would be one that a lot of people would thoroughly enjoy based on the storyline.

On a 5-Star Scale - 3 Stars

Smiles & Blessings,

From the Back Cover;

Robin Windsor has spent much of her life under an assumed name to avoid association with her infamous parents. She thought she'd finally found sanctuary running her used bookstore in quiet River City, Michigan. But when she receives an eerily familiar book in the mail on the morning of her father's scheduled execution, Robin is thrown back to the summer she met Peter Flynt, the perfect boy who ruined everything. Why would Peter be making contact now? And why does she have a sinking feeling that she's about to be exposed all over again?

With evocative prose that recalls the classic novels we love, Erin Bartels pens a story that shows that words--the ones we say, the ones we read, and the ones we write--have more power than we imagine.

Yours Truly, Thomas by Rachel Fordham

For three years, Penny Ercanbeck has been opening other people's mail.

Dead ends are a reality for clerks at the dead letter office, and she dreams of something more--a bit of intrigue, perhaps a taste of romance. When she comes across a letter from a brokenhearted man to his one true love, it becomes her mission to place this lost letter into the hands of its intended recipient.

But when Penny's undertaking leads her to the intriguing man who touched her soul with his words, everything grows more complicated. She wants to find the rightful owner of the letter, and yet...she finds herself caring--perhaps too much--for the one who wrote it.

My Thoughts

I love new authors and when Yours Truly, Thomas was offered as a book to read and review I jumped at he chance. This is Ms. Fordham's second book in her Azure Springs series, the first being The Hope of Azure Springs. I found from the very first words that Ms. Fordham would be a new favorite author for me.

The story begins in 1883 in the dead letter office in Washington DC. The lead character, Penny Ercanbeck will endear herself to the reader within the first few moments of meeting her. As for the male lead, Thomas Conner, he also endeared himself to me. It was apparent he had a wounded heart that was in need of forgiveness and love. I loved both characters equally and would love to see a sequel with more of their story.

If you enjoy historical romance with a little bit of suspense mixed in, Yours Truly, Thomas is a book I feel you will truly enjoy.

Healing the Cowboy's Heart by Ruth Logan Herne

If you love horses, kids and romance you should definitely enjoy Ruth Logan Herne's newest Love Inspired book, Healing the Cowboy's Heart which comes out in July 2019.

The lead character, veterinarian Charlotte Fitzgerald is an extremely strong character honed by her past. The male lead, Isaiah Woods is a rancher, breeder of Appaloosa horses and the guardian for his niece and nephew. Isaiah is also a strong character battling issues of his past. When these two characters meet magic happens. I loved their interactions and I absolutely fell in love with JJ and Liam, Isaiah's niece and nephew.

To be honest, I found myself shedding tears several times. Especially when the love of Rising, a family dog, was conveyed so well through the tears of little Liam. I won't say more because I don't hand out spoilers. However, when you pick up the book please see the top of page 88. You just may shed a few tears too.

Once again, if you love romance, horses, kids, and stories of forgiveness you'll love this book.

On a 5-Star Scale - 5 Stars!!!!!

Lone Star Standoff by Margaret Daley

I love reading Love Inspired Suspense novels and when Margaret Daley's name is on the cover it is always a must read for me. Her newest book, which released this month, is Lone Star Standoff and it is another winner.

Lone Star Standoff is filled with an extremely tense drug cartel court case, a widowed judge whose life has been threatened and a Texas Ranger who steps in to protect the widowed judge and her twins. The twists and turns throughout the book propelled me through the pages faster than normal and I savored every page.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a fast-paced, suspenseful romance.

A high-profile trial turns lethal...
The next exciting Lone Star Justice  novel

Presiding over the trial of a powerful drug cartel member, Judge Aubrey Madison finds her life threatened, and Texas Ranger Sean McNair isn't taking any chances. Protecting the widow and her twins comes naturally to Sean--maybe too naturally for a guy who's convinced he shouldn't have a family. But he can't help wishing for a future with Aubrey...if he can keep her alive.

Justice Delivered by Patricia Bradley

The fourth book in Patricia Bradley's "Memphis Cold Case" series is, in my opinion, the best of the series. Rest assured if you haven't read the first three in the series it won't interfere in enjoying this book as they can all be read as a stand-alone.

The heroine of the story is Carly Smith, a victim of human trafficking, who after escaping from her captor she changed her name and hid out for many years. After the death of her sister she comes out of hiding, so to speak, and goes back to her former hometown to see if she can locate her abductor. She ends up working with a police officer whom she dated in her youth and when they first meet he doesn't recognize her.

Filled with twists and turns, this suspense-filled novel kept me glued to my seat until the very last page. Just when I thought I had the bad guys pegged I realized I wasn't quite right after all. I highly recommend this novel to anyone who loves a good suspense-filled novel.

On a 5-Star Scale - 5 Star Stars!!!!!

NKJV Spirit -Filled Bible, Executive Editor Jack W. Hayford

When given the opportunity to review the NKJV Spirit-Filled Life Bible I jumped at the chance. I had heard great things about the earlier editions of this Bible and so I was excited to receive this one as it is the third edition. The executive editor of this Bible is Jack W. Hayford. The copy I received is in black leather and it is thumb-indexed.

Some of the features included in the Bible are:
  • Word Wealth - there are more than 650 word studies that help shed light on key terms, drawing meaning from the original Greek & Hebrew.
  • Kingdom Dynamics - Dozens of Biblical themes are addressed in notes by many Spirit-filled preachers, teachers, and writers.
  • Truth-in-Action - Helpful thematic charts provide practical applications from every book of the Bible.
  • Praying the Word - Powerful prayers throughout the Bible-based directly on Scripture.
  • Detailed book introductions and outlines aiding you to learn each book's historical background.
  • Verse-by-verse study notes that explain each passage and illuminates your understanding.
  • Includes a full-color design with updated maps and charts, a detailed concordance and in-depth articles about the Spirit Filled life.
  • Clear and readable 10-point font.
I truly love this Bible and the beauty of the color throughout its pages. Please see the picture below that shows a Kingdom Dynamics box and a  Word Wealth box. Also, the Praying God's word boxes are a beautiful light blue-green and really brings the Scriptures to life.

The only negative thing I would say about my copy of this beautiful Bible is that it is thumb-indexed. I like to search the Scriptures myself and find that now that I have the thumb-indexed version I'm starting to use it which I didn't want to do. Other than that I loved this Bible and all the special features within. It is a wonderful Bible for those of us who are Spirit-filled, however, anyone can find this Bible to be a great asset in your study of the Scriptures. Also, the 10-point font is very easy to read.

I would like to thank Booklook Bloggers and Thomas Nelson Publishers for my copy of the NKJV Spirit-Filled Bible. I received my copy for free but I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission's 16 CFR. Part 255.

Far Side of the Sea by Kate Breslin

In 1918 England, Lieutenant Colin Mabry spends his days decoding messages for MI8 after suffering injuries at the front. When he receives an urgent summons by carrier pigeon from Jewel Reyer--a woman who saved his life and whom he believed to be dead--he can only hope he'll regain the courage he lost on the front lines as he's driven back into war-torn France.
But Jewel isn't the one waiting for him in Paris. Instead, it is a stranger who claims to be her half-sister, Johanna, who works at a dovecote for French Army Intelligence. She found Jewel's diary and believes her sister is alive and in the custody of a German agent. With spies everywhere, Coli is at first skeptical of Johanna, but as they travel across France and Spain, a tentative trust grows.
That trust is quickly put to the test, however, when their pursuit leads them straight into the midst of a treacherous plot and their search for answers quickly turns into a battle for their lives.

My Thoughts:

I absolutely loved this book. It was filled with suspense, intrigue, and romance. Kate Breslin has created a well-balanced novel set during WWI that will leave the reader wanting more.

I love characters that are not only believable but ones that make the reader want to really know them. Lieutenant Colin Mabry and Johanna Reyer were just that, believable and so real that I wanted them to walk off of the page. From the very first page, I was pulled into the story and loved every minute of it.

I really can't say anything negative about this book. I loved it from cover to cover and would highly suggest it to anyone who loves clean historical novels filled with suspense.

Never Let Go by Elizabeth Goddard

THE CASE MAY BE COLD,
BUT THINGS ARE ABOUT TO HEAT UP

Forensic genealogist Willow Anderson is following in her late grandfather's footsteps in her quest for answers about a baby abducted from a hospital more than twenty years ago. When someone makes an attempt on Willow's life to keep her from discovering the truth, help will come from an unexpected source.

Ex-FBI agent--and Willow's ex-flame--Austin McKade readily offers to protect the woman he never should have let get away. Together th 2y'll follow where the clues lead them, even if it means Austin must face the past he's spent much of his life trying to forget--and put Willow's tender heart at risk.

My Thoughts:

I have always been a fan of Elizabeth Goddard's Love Inspired Suspense novels and when I learned she would be releasing a trade paperback through Revell Books, I was ecstatic. Her first book in her "Uncommon Justice" series, Never Let Go, is a definite winner. It is fast-paced, suspenseful and will keep the reader on the edge of their seats.

Willow Anderson is a forensic genealogist who has just lost her beloved grandfather and inherits the last cold case he was hired to solve. But then enters ex-FBI agent, Austin McKade who was hired by her grandfather to help on the case. Unfortunately, Willow and Austin have a past that ended poorly. The question is, can they move beyond their past and get the job done?

The title of the book, Never Let Go, really says it all, from the first page to the last I didn't want to put it down. The book involves a 21-year old cold case, arson, a couple of murders and a few attempted murders. Oh, it also contains some romance that is packed full of sparks and tension.

I would highly recommend Never Let Go to anyone who truly loves a good clear romantic suspense. I can hardly wait until the Fall of 2019 when the second installment of the "Uncommon Justice" series is released.

The Sky Above Us by Sarah Sundin

Facing the past may be the most
fearsome battle of his life.

Numbed by grief and harboring shameful secrets, Lt. Adler Paxton ships to England with the US 357th Fighter Group in 1943. Determined to become an ace pilot, Adler battles the German Luftwaffe in treacherous dogfights in the skies over France as the Allies struggle for control of the air before the D-day invasion.

Violet Lindstrom wants to be a missionary, but for now she serves in the American Red Cross, arranging entertainment for the men of the 357th and setting up programs for local children. Drawn to the mysterious Adler, she enlists his help with her work and urges him to reconnect with his family after a long estrangement.

Despite himself, Adler finds his defenses crumbling when it comes to Violet. But D-day draws near...and secrets can't stay buried forever.

My Thoughts:

When it comes to novels set during World War II, in my humble opinion, there is no better author than Sarah Sundin. Her second book in her "Sunrise at Normandy" series, The Sky Above Us is an awesome read. The first book in the series is The Sea Before Us. I have yet to read the first book in the series, however, I just bought a copy because the second book was so good.

The series is about three brothers, Wyatt, Adler and Clay Paxton. This story belongs to Adler, a fighter pilot in the 357th Fighter Group based in England. Adler is running from his past and is yearning to become an ace so that once the war is over he can start a flying freight business names ACES. He also has a problem with being 'second'. He had a problem being second to his brother Wyatt, and being a wingman. This is a story of someone wanting one thing and finding that what God planned for him was far better.

Adler's interest is Violet Lindstrom, a member of the American Red Cross. Her dream is to become a missionary in Africa just like her great aunt. But just as Adler learned to change, so did Violet and her dream changes as well.

Ms. Sundin has a great gift in making the reader feel like they are right in the cockpit with the pilot. This gift is no different. I guarantee you will feel like you are in each and every dogfight that takes place in this book and if your heart isn't beating a little faster by the end of each scene, you probably didn't engage.

The Sky Above Us is a fast-paced, World War II action novel that will get the reader's heart pumping. It is also an inspirational romance novel that will touch the heart of any reader. I would highly recommend this book to anyone, but especially to fans of historical romance.

Her Last Chance Cowboy by Tina Radcliffe

She came seeking family...
Will she find love
at Big Heart Ranch?

When pregnant single mother Hannah Vincent shows up professing to be the half sister of the Maxwells of Big Heart Ranch, horse trainer Tripp Walker is wary. Wounded before, he doesn't trust easily. If only Hannah and her feisty five-year-old daughter weren't so impossible to resist. Now, despite his doubts, joining this little family is quickly becoming the cautious cowboy's greatest wish.

My Thoughts:

The author of Her Last Chance Cowboy, Tina Radcliffe, definitely saved the best for last. in her "Big Heart Ranch" series. This is the fourth and final book in the series. This is Tripp Walker's story and I loved it!

Tripp's story was definitely worth the wait. He appeared in the other books and we saw just enough to know that his story needed to be told. It was obvious he had been hurt in the past because the walls were built solid around his heart. Solid until a pregnant Hannah Vincent and her adorable daughter, Clementine, came on the seen. She was filled with a spirit that when she met Tripp the sparks flew. These two characters challenged each other and it was pure delight to see their story unfold.

As for the rest of the family and friends of Big Heart Ranch, I loved them all. I truly hate to see this series end but I know it must. Though I would love a story sometime in the future with Dub and Clementine as a grown-up couple living and working at Big Heart Ranch.

I  would highly recommend this book of second chances to anyone who loves a good story that tugs at your heartstrings.

On a 5-Star scale = 5 stars!!!!!

A Cowboy in Shepherd's Crossing by Ruth Logan Herne

From bachelor to daddy...
Shepherd's Crossing is
full of surprises

Cowboy bachelor Jace Middleton was ready to leave Shepherd's Crossing for good--until he learns his family's unspoken secrets. Now Jace finds himself not only caring for his twin baby nieces, but working with beautiful, strong-willed designer Melonie Fitzgerald to renovate his grandmother's run-down estate. Love wasn't part of the plan...but Jace soon finds himself wishing Melonie could become part of his unexpected family.

My Thoughts:

"Sleep stole up on her like a summer sunset. Nothing hurried about it. And when she finally closed her eyes one last time--and the bottle went lax in her mouth--he stared at the absolute miracle he held in his arms." (Page 64)

This is just a small moment in this wonderful book where Ms. Herne brings the story to life to the reader. I saw it. I felt it. And I loved it. Ms. Herne has created another wonderful story in her Shepherd's Crossing series. A book that the reader can step into and become one with.

The hero, Jace Middleton, has his life turned upside down at the same time he meets the heroine, Melonie Fitzgerald. Who, by the way, has had a shake-up in her life as well. I must say these two characters had sparks flying throughout their story. These two special people come from definite cultures and Ms. Herne paints their relationship beautifully.

I have to say that besides the two wonderful twins that showed up in Jace's life, I loved Gilda. She was a curmudgeon that was trying to make things right. I truly believe that what happened in Jace's distant past was a loving thing that Gilda had a part in. I don't want to hand out a spoiler so you'll have to read this wonderful book to find out just who Gilda is.

If I were to say anything negative about this book, it would be to say that I really wish that they had included the twins on the cover with Jace and Melonie. But in my mind's eye, I see them there.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to read a feel-good story.

On a 5-Star Scale = 5 Stars!!!!!

Code of Valor by Lynette Eason

Code of ValorLynette Eason's current book, Code of Valor, is the third book of her "Blue Justice Series" following Oath of Honor and Called to Protect. This series revolves around the St. John family and once you meet them I guarantee you will love them.

Back Cover:

SHE'S LIVING PROOF THAT WHAT YOU DON'T KNOW
 COULD KILL YOU.

What Detective Brady St. John really needs is a relaxing vacation. Unfortunately, just as the sun is setting on his second day at a friend's cabin on Lake Henley, he hears a scream and races to rescue a woman from her would-be killer. When the killer escapes only to return to finish the job, Brady vows to utilize all of his many resources to keep her safe--and catch those who would see her dead.
Financial crimes investigator Emily Chastain doesn't trust many people. And even though she's trying to cooperate with the detective who saved her life, there are some things she doesn't know--and some things you just don't share with a stranger. Little does she suspect that what she doesn't know just might get them both killed.

My Thoughts:

Ms. Eason is a master at creating multifaceted believable characters and fast-paced page-turning suspenseful novels. It saddens me when an author speeds up the ending of the story (maybe due to meeting a deadline) but that is never an issue with Ms. Eason as she always gives the reader the whole story and never shortchanges the reader by ending the story too quickly.

If you love fast-paced suspenseful novels you'll love Code of Valor. The characters draw you in from the beginning and do not let you go until the very end of the story. I would highly recommend this book.

On a 5-Star Scale = 5 Stars!!!!!

I would like to thank Revell Books, a division of Baker Publishing Group for my copy of Code of Valor.  I received my copy for free but I was not required to write a positive review. Smiles & Blessings,

Lone Star Christmas Witness by Margaret Daley

Lone Star Christmas Witness, is the 5th book in Margaret Daley's "Lone Star Justice" series and it is another extremely suspenseful addition to this great series. Please note while it is part of a series it can be read as a stand-alone book.

Back Cover:

To protect a child witness
Lone Star Justice must prevail

With a killer at large, Texas Ranger Taylor Blackburn must safeguard little Ben Markham--the sole survivor of a mass shooting. But allowing Ben and his beautiful aunt, Sierra Walker, into his life is riskier than Taylor imagined. While he can distract Ben with Christmas planning, Taylor can't ignore how Sierra makes him feel. The only thing harder than protecting them is guarding his own heart...

My Thoughts:

Lone Star Christmas Witness is another sit-on-the-edge-of-your-seat book by Margaret Daley and this one could come right out of a current headline. Ms. Daley handles the subject well.

This book starts out in the aftermath of a mass shooting leaving one very young boy as the only witness. The suspense escalates from there taking the reader on a roller coaster ride.

I always love it when an author creates a world and characters that beckon me in. Where you feel like you are right there feeling what the characters are feeling. Ms. Daley does this very well.

I am a huge fan of good characterization and I wasn't disappointed with Sierra, Taylor, Ben and Taylor's father Robert. They were all believable and I grew fond of them all.

The saddest part of the story centered around a little boy named Ben, who because of the circumstances turned mute. But in time... well you'll have to read the book to see what- happens.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good suspense-filled story, especially one set during Christmas.

On a 5-Star scale = 5 Stars!!!!!
